Tuna calls for the right wine pairing.
The world-wide tuna market is about $5 billion a year. About 80% of the tuna is canned. Japan itself consumes almost 80% of the fresh tuna. Most tuna stocks are overfished. I'm told once you eat seared tuna you won't want to look at canned tuna again. You have to be careful about mercury levels in large tuna such as bluefin and albacore. Here canned tuna has an advantage as most of it comes from the smaller skipjack species. Just for the record, one guy once ate 73 cans of tuna in a single day.
In addition to the wines mentioned in our food pairing table you might consider an Alsatian Pinot Gris or a Provençal Rosé for Grilled Tuna and Sancerre for Pan-fried Tuna.
