What You Need To Know About Vouvray Wine And Food

Dry Vouvray wine is an acidic white wine made in the Loire Valley of western France from the Chenin Blanc grape variety. Some Vouvrays are sparkling wines. Flavors include fruits, honey, and minerals. Suggested food pairings include Sushi and Sushami (light fish). You may also pair Vouvray, dry or not, withHam, Catfish, and Seafood with Cream Sauce.

Vouvray starts at about $9 a bottle and can go sky high. For about $15 you can get the off-dry J.-C. Pichot Vouvray Domaine Le Peu de la Moriette that tastes of quince and figs. You can age it for a couple of years. In the $20 range go for the Marc Brédif Vouvray which tastes of melon and honey which you can also age for a couple of years. For about $34 get the Huet Vouvray Clos du Bourg Sec which tastes of green almond, ginger, humus, and cloves. If you want to spend $450 you can get a 1924 Domaine Le Haut Lieu (Gaston Huet) Vouvray Moelleux. But remember, Moelleux means sweet. Maybe that's why I decided not to buy it. Maybe not.
